As I have mentioned in an earlier post, most shops and restaurants in Rome are closed in August. Knowing this I made a rookie mistake and made a rush to a L’Asino d’Oro after reading rave reviews on it in this guest post on Parla Food.
Since it is August, it’s same to assume that most restaurants are closed and the best thing to do is to call them up. If you don’t get an answer – they are closed!
Imagine my disappointment when I got to L’Asino d’Oro, in this sweltering heat, looking forward to lunch but instead, I saw the following sign. No way!!!
Ok, I have made a note and will be returning to this restaurant as soon as it reopens! As I still needed to have lunch, I thought that I would stop by Urbana 47, another restaurant in the neigborhood but guess what? They were closed too and were doing some renovations.
My last hope was Tricolore which was a few hundred meters away. I would have been more than happy to have a burger (just give me some food!!) Yup they were closed too.
If you are in Rome in August, make sure you call the restaurant to check before heading there. Avoid the disappointment and the heat!
P.S. Besides the fact that most restaurants are closed in August, it is also very hot. The best time to visit would be late Sept-early Oct or in Spring!
