There are two things that are you will undoubtedly see in Rome. First one is traffic.
Traffic in Rome is bad in general but when it rains, it’s a real nightmare. This morning it was raining and even with the police helping to ease traffic, everything was blocked. Together with traffic you will also hear the honking (it comes as a package) as they are basically trying to get others to move out of their way…so to say. From the video, you can see that lanes don’t seem to exist to Italians. It’s do whatever you like! One reason why I don’t drive in Rome.
The second are the men selling umbrellas. When it starts drizzling they suddenly appear in huge numbers out of nowhere. I say men because I have never seen a woman doing this.
Once an English friend of mine was walking without an umbrella while I had mine and when she was approached to buy an umbrella. She said no nicely but the man was rather insistent and at that point, she got fed up and said ‘Honey, I am English, I don’t need an umbrella,we are used to the rain!’ I don’t think the umbrellas cost that much, maybe €5-6 but I think
I always keep an umbrella in my bag because you really can’t tell when it’s going to rain. Don’t get the wrong impression. Rome generally has great weather but you never know when a rain cloud passes by!
