I can’t believe I have been here for 4 years. A few months after I moved here, Italy won the World Cup and it was a sleepless night.
I have to admit that I am so busy at the moment that I haven’t really been following what’s happening. It’s probably because Italy hasn’t played yet but that will all change tomorrow when they play Paraguay at 8.30pm here in Rome (2.30pm EST). In the last World Cup, I basically knew all the players, even the bench warmers! Now, I can’t even name 5 players and even though I’ve heard Italy hasn’t been playing very well in the friendly games leading up to the World Cup, I wish them all the best. It’s hard to be World Cup champions back to back but you never know.
I suspect that the streets of Italy will be very quiet tomorrow evening as most people will be home with friends cheering for their national team. I sometimes think that soccer is the only thing that unites Italian! Scary but it sincerely feels that way. On a positive note, it’s nice when people do come together. Forza Azzurri!
