Via dei Coronari, Rome

Last weekend, we headed to the center of Rome to look for a piece of furniture for the new house. My sister-in-law mentioned that she saw a antique Chinese shop on Via dei Coronari.

As we went with the car, it took forever for us to find parking along Lungotevere and fortunately, when we did, it was relatively close to where we wanted to go.

I don’t remember walking along Via dei Coronari before and found it intriguing. If you like antiques, I recommend that you walk along this street when you are here in Rome. As most of you will visit Piazza Navona, it’s just around the corner.

Here are some of the shops along the street. We went to a Chinese antique shop and since I am familiar with Chinese culture, some of the furniture they were selling were kind of strange. They sold altars where one would pray for dead relatives. I am not sure if they know the purpose of these pieces but I guess they are just things and it is you who attach the meaning to them. (Gosh, that’s deep!)

There is also a bonsai store. We are looking for some plants for the house and I told my husband that I have killed a bonsai before and don’t feel I am capable of after looking one. Anyway, we stepped in and the man told us that a bonsai requires maintenance. That is, he would need to come over to the house twice a year to trim and do maintenance work on the plant. Alternatively, we can bring the plant to the shop while we walk around the area. At the moment, I don’t need another commitment so no bonsai for now. I have to say they are really work of art.

My uncle who is an antique collector was in Rome with his family a few months ago and if I had known this street then, I would have brought them here. Well, next time!
