One of the positive things about living in Rome is the sunny, Mediterranean climate which it enjoys. I have to admit that Rome does get year-round sunshine even in winter. When there’s the sun, winter is less gloomy and except for this year, winters have been bearable. It has been raining a lot this winter and though there are days where the temperature drops below 4C (40F), there are exceptions rather than the norm.
During the summer the weather is gloriously hot and dry. During the peak summer months of July and August average temperatures in Rome are well above 28C (83F) and the months of May, June, September and October are perfect for walking, exploring and sightseeing. This warm, sunny climate means that an outdoor lifestyle is enjoyed in Rome, and lunchtimes allow workers to enjoy some sunshine too. Enjoy the culture of al fresco dining beneath the many shady terraces, tree-line piazzas, gardens and balconies set for dining.
Remember to pack suitable clothing for your visit. Cotton dresses, loose shirts and pants are ideal with casual evening attire with long sleeves in spring and autumn. Add a jacket or raincoat in November through March. On top of that, as many places to visit are religious sites, dress appropriately and save the disappointment of not being allowed to enter these sites.
